Water for Gotani Health Clinic in Kenya

water-for-gotani-health-clinic-in-kenya.Projectpage2.jpg Location: Kenya

Amount Needed:$25,000

Benefits: This project will benefit 36,000 people in the surrounding community who use the health clinic.

Imagine going to a hospital where there is no running water.  The only health clinic in the Gotani region of Kenya lacks running water and adequate sanitation, compounding the health problems of the patients.  Some 36,000 people in the sorrounding area will benefit from the water this project will bring to the clinic and the community.  This project will construct a three mile water pipeline, a distribution kiosk and a hand-washing stand at the health dispensary.
Facing the Problem
At the health clinic in Gotani, the only one in the region, there is no water for the nurses to wash their hands or to provide patients with clean drinking water. Patents who come to the clinic seeking assistance face the real danger of coming in contact with water borne diseases. Patients are carried up to 15km to receive service at the clinic. The woman responsible for running the services is a community nurse with an eighth grade education. Most drugs she dispenses are out of date. The nurse and volunteers must walk 2km each direction to collect water for use at the dispensary.
